What is Cosmetic PRP Treatment?

Cosmetic platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies utilize concentrated growth factors from your own blood to reverse the signs of aging without the side effects of artificial fillers and chemicals. Results—including faded discolorations and reduced wrinkles—often begin showing within days of treatment. Its impacts are often longer-lasting, safer, and more affordable than other, more invasive treatments.

PRP is a natural and minimally invasive way to address the effects of aging, soft tissue and joint injuries, and hair loss. After a simple blood draw, we use a specialized centrifuge to carefully separate your platelets from your red blood cells. Your platelets are then activated and injected into injured areas.

In addition to helping fine lines and wrinkles, research shows growth factors have anti-inflammatory effects, can enhance the rate of tissue healing and help to repair soft tissue and muscular damage.

Our Cosmetic PRP Treatment

In 1948, Dr. Rita Levi Moltancinin discovered nervous system growth factor (NGF), a therapy that helps promote cell recovery and inflammation reduction. In 1986, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine, along with colleague Dr. Stanley Cohen. Their findings led to the development and use of modern growth factor therapies in medicine.

Lake Oswego Health Center offers cosmetic PRP facelifts and other cosmetic injections based on this breakthrough regenerative technology, which allows us to make a filler out of your own platelets. The therapy features minimal bruising and requires between just one and four treatments, with at least a one-month interval in between. We also offer facial rejuvenation without needles.

Skin Rejuvenation

As we age, our skin’s collagen and elastin break down more rapidly, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. PRP stimulates cells responsible for making collagen and elastin and restores our skin integrity. This creates a firmer, smoother texture. PRP can also be combined with our Micro Needling Skin Pen. We can further enhance rejuvenation by combining treatment with our prescription anti-aging cream, bio-identical hormone therapy, or recommended imported skincare. PRP skin rejuvenation:

  • Increases collagen
  • Remodels aging skin
  • Smoothes fine lines
  • Enhances skin integrity

Hair Growth

For hair growth, PRP therapy works by drawing a small amount of your blood and then separating the platelets and growth factors from the rest of the blood cells. The concentrated platelets are then injected into the affected area of hair loss. The platelets promote healing, regeneration, and stimulate inactive hair follicles.

After your treatment, you may have some mild discomfort, swelling, and/or a slight headache. These side effects are temporary. PRP treatments are typically done once a month for six months. After one year, you will have a re-evaluation to check progress. Benefits include:

  • Noninvasive and natural treatment options
  • Prevents further hair loss and regrows hair
  • Reverses hair follicle miniaturization
  • Improves hair density and thickness

We also frequently prescribe compounded facial creams that can include bioidentical hormones and offer several professional-grade skincare lines. Topical ozonated facial cleansers and regenerative serums can lead to youthful, healthy skin using nontoxic ingredients.
