Exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT)

Exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT) has been around for decades. Patients use their own personal oxygen mask which delivers a therapeutic levels of oxygen while exercising in the office for 15 minutes (2-3 times per week). Blood oxygen levels are optimized, leading to an immediate increase in strength, endurance, and energy. You may walk or run during the session.

In addition to increased exercise endurance. EWOT has been shown to improve immune function, prevent and decrease symptoms of chronic disease. As we age and undergo physiological stress, we become less efficient at delivering oxygen to our tissues. EWOT counteracts this process.

Far Infrared Sauna

Far infrared sauna treatments have many benefits. It causes increased sweat production, enhances detoxification, can aid in pain relief, weight loss, boost our immune system, reduce stress and improve sleep, aid in wound healing and muscle relaxation, and much more.

Research has shown far infrared sauna to enhance pain relief in RA, fibromyalgia, back pain, and bursitis. Other studies have shown patients can burn up to 600 calories in 30 minutes.

Far infrared saunas maintain a relatively low air temperature. It is easier for patients to be comfortable and withstand longer treatments. The warming of the sauna is able to reach 1.5” deep. This raises the core body temperature. This can enhance lymph flow, detoxification, and reduce blood pressure. By relaxing the parasympathetic nervous system, we often see improved digestive function.

You do not have to be a patient of the clinic to enjoy our sauna. There is a small amount of paperwork to fill out before your first session. The sauna is located in a private room. If you are not a patient, we are not directing the time and frequency of use. Typically the sauna is used for 20-30 minutes.

We ask that you bring a towel to sit on and to dry off with. It is recommended that you go home to shower after using the sauna to further the detoxification process. There is filtered water in the lobby with mugs for clinic use. You are welcome to bring a larger bottle to fill as well.

From inside the sauna you can adjust: temperature, time, lighting and the volume of music. You are welcome to bring a CD as well.

Package deals are available. Please call the office for more details.

Labs Offered

Standard Screening Blood tests and additional when needed.

  • Advanced Food Allergy Testing
    • Food allergy testing can be an excellent way to guide us to healthier eating. Patients can find out what foods their body is creating antibodies to with a simple non-fasting blood test. It is also possible to simply use a finger stick blood sample. The test results will be reviewed during an office visit 3 weeks after the blood draw. Specific diet recommendations will be given at that time.

We offer several food allergy testing options. You must be an established patient. There are circumstances where the doctor may want to improve other health conditions prior to testing for more accuracy. Also, certain medications can’t be taken within 4 weeks for effective results. Please not that insurance does not covering this type of testing.

      Common food sensitivity symptoms are:

      • Itchy skin and rashes
      • Acne
      • Digestive problems
      • Brain fog
      • Headaches/Migraines
      • Joint pain
      • Mood disorders
      • ADHD
      • Easy weight gain

If you are interested, you need to be an established patient. After that, you can call anytime during office hours to schedule your blood draw.

  • Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Testing
      • Stool Testing (for bacteria, parasites, candida, food antibodies, digestive enzymes and more)
      • SIBO Breath Test (for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
      • Food allergy Panels (for more information, see below)
      • Micronutrient TestingDigestive complaints are one of the most important problems to discuss with your physician. Symptoms are commonly overlooked or labeled with a broad diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and the underlying cause ignored. Gastrointestinal (GI) testing can help determine that cause by identifying an imbalance in healthy bacteria, parasitic or candida infection, food sensitivities and much more. Analysis of digestive enzymes and testing for nutrient levels can also help. Testing can help us get you back on track quicker with a more focused treatment plan.

For more information regarding common diagnoses and complaints, please visit our Common Condition page. Various labs are available depending upon your symptoms. The typical costs range from $155-600.
  • MTHFR testing
  • Nutrient Analysis Blood tests
  • Salivary Hormone Panels
    • Hormones can be tested in blood, urine, or saliva. Salivary hormone testing is easy to do and provides reliable results. Salivary testing may be a more accurate way to show the amount of hormone that is delivered to the receptors. The testing is cost-effective, with a turn around time of approximately 2 weeks.Patients must schedule an office visit to determine which hormones are appropriate to test. These hormones include: Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), Estriol (E3), Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA, and Cortisol.
  • Neurotransmitter Testing
    • Urine neurotransmitter testing can be an effective way to customize treatment plans specifically for the individual patient’s needs. Todays prescriptions focus most on Serotonin. However, with neurotransmitter testing, we can determine which neurotransmitters are high or low. Often it is not Serotonin.Neurotransmitters regulate emotions, mood, pain, and overall sense of well-being. When they are balanced, patients notice improvements with anxiety, depression, adrenal function, hormone balancing, appetite and weight control. Medications, diet and lifestyle choices can also alter our neurotransmitter balance.
  • Heavy Metal Testing

Neurofeedback and Biofeedback - LENS system

Low energy neurofeedback (LENS) system has been shown to provide significant changes with typically less treatments than traditional neurofeedback. The feedback signal provides measurable changes in our brainwaves. EEG signals are recorded and discussed with the patient.

The LENS system can be very helpful with patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI), ADHD, depression, anxiety, and improved physical performance.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

Many Americans suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, yet often, the problem goes unidentified and untreated. Statistics tell us that 1 in 5 Americans (of all ages) suffer from some form of pelvic floor dysfunction at some point in time in their life. Additionally, contrary to popular belief, it’s not just a "women's" disorder; men and children can have pelvic floor dysfunction as well.

The pelvic floor is made up of muscles and other tissues that form a sling from the pubic bone to the tailbone. They assist in supporting the abdominal and pelvic organs, and help to control bladder, bowel and sexual activity.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is a term used to describe a wide range of problems that occur when the muscles within the pelvis are unbalanced. They can be overly weak, tight, or there can even be impairment of the sacroiliac joint, low back, coccyx or hip joint. The tissues surrounding the pelvic organs may have increased or decreased sensitivity or irritation resulting in pelvic pain.

The etiology of pelvic floor dysfunction can be due to infections, pregnancy or childbirth, changes in hormones, dysfunctional physical training or weight lifting, poor posture from chronic low back or SI dysfunction, trauma (i.e. an injury or car accident), or a result of surgery.

Patients are often referred because they have one or more of the following problems:

  • Disorders of the bladder
  • IC (Interstitial Cystitis)/ Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS)
  • Prostatitis
  • Prostatodynia
  • Disorders of the bowel
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease)
  • Chronic constipation
  • Feeling of fullness/abdominal pain, pressure, discomfort, and bloating
  • Sexual Dysfunctions
  • Anorgasmia
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Levator Ani Syndrome refers to pain, pressure, or ache in the sacrum, coccyx, rectum, and/or vagina caused by unusual tension in the levator ani muscles.
    • May increase with intercourse, sitting, defecation, and constipation
    • Pain referred to the thigh or coccyx/sacrum, gluteal region
    • Severe, sharp, burning, or ache with urination
  • Pelvic Pain/Dysfunction
  • Pudendal neuralgia
  • Dyspareunia
  • Vulvodynia
  • Vulvar vestibulitis
  • Vaginismus
  • Chronic pelvic infections/ vaginitis
  • Pelvic congestion
  • Lichens sclerosus
  • Lichens planus
  • Disorders of the musculoskeletal system
  • Coccydynia
  • Low back pain
  • Pelvic imbalance
  • Post-Surgical scarring and pain: hysterectomy, hernia, laparoscopy, caesarean section, appendectomy, prostatectomy, and episiotomy.

Treatment may include:

  • External and internal manual therapy including: respiratory synkinesis, myofascial release and trigger point release, visceral manipulation, connective tissue manipulation, and biofeedback.
  • Cold laser, heat and cold therapy.
  • IV therapies including PRP and ozone

We prefer treatment to be multidisciplinary and holistic. We also offer help with stress management, nutritional counseling, gynecological services, and herbal therapies.

Connective Tissue Manipulation

It is the movement of one layer of skin over the other to release tension in the tissue and to increase range of motion in the joint or the limb. The manipulation creates a sensation of a sharp scratch, and the tighter the tissue, the sharper the sensation. When the tension is released, the blood flow to the area increases, thereby removing toxins from that region, decreasing pain, and ultimately allowing more movement to occur. With each treatment, there is further reduction in connective tissue tension.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a sheet of connective tissue that surrounds, separates, or connects muscles, organs, and other soft structures of the body. Myofascial release is application of sustained pressure to reduce fascial restrictions to relieve pain, improve range of motion, relax muscles, and relieve neurological dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation

Adhesions, abnormal tone, or displacement may result in disharmonious movement between internal organs which in turn may lead to chronic irritation and pain. Visceral manipulation uses gentle palpation and manual therapy to evaluate and correct the imbalances.

Prolozone, Plasma Rich Platelet Therapy (PRP), and Prolotherapy

Dr. McMonagle and Dr. Bourgeois have seen wonderful results with Prolozone treatments.

It has been used all over the world for decades.

Prolozone is a regenerative injection technique that was developed by Dr. Frank Shallenberger. The treatment can provide amazing relief for musculoskeletal pain, joint pain, chronic back pain, rotator cuff injuries, arthritis pain, degenerative disc issues, and much more. We are trying to heal the tissue and not just mask the cause of pain. We often don’t realize how our daily pain is affecting our lives. If you have chronic pain, check out the links at the bottom.

Injuries can’t completely heal without vitamins, minerals, and oxygen. Prolozone initially decreases pain as an analgesic. The oxygen/ozone increases circulation to aid in the healing process and we add vitamins and minerals to further complete this cycle. Most patients respond within 4-6 treatments.

During your visit you will have time to discuss with the doctor which type of injection therapy may benefit you.

If you are interested in prolozone injections you can read about them at Oxygen Healing Therapies and at The American Academy of Ozonotherapy.

You can also go to and search for some of Dr. Rowen’s videos of patient testimonials about ozone therapy. For example: You can search “ozone and arthritis”.

Patients need to establish care at our clinic. If you have a primary care provider or there are limited health concerns, we can usually treat you on the initial visit. If you have health insurance that covers the visit (please see the insurance benefit check form under services offered - FAQ/resources tab to check if you have coverage), there are additional fees for injectibles that are not covered. We do offer a 20% cash discount for the office visits if patients do not have insurance coverage that works in our office. The cost will vary depending on the number of joints injected and amount of anesthesia and materials used.

It is helpful to bring any recent labs or x-ray (any imaging) reports that you have. There is typically 1-2 days of soreness that is minimal. Patients can go about their regular activity immediately after the injections. However, as patients feel better, it is recommended to continue their typical routines and not increase their activity level until cleared with the doctor. The number of visits depends on the degree of response, health of the patient, nutritional status and severity of the problem. It is typically 1-3 injections to start. I usually recommend repeating the injections in 2 weeks. The typical patient will feel better within 4-6 injections.

Please see our ozone therapy tab for more research links!

Platelet Therapy, PRP for Pain and PRP to treat Hair Loss

Regenerative Medicine for pain

Plasma Rich Platelet Therapy (PRP) has been used for decades. The therapy utilizes your own blood to extract platelets and inject them into the injured area.

PRP is a treatment option for joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscle injuries:

  • Arthritis pain and injured joints
  • Shoulder pain such as rotator cuff tears and frozen shoulder
  • Plantar fascitis
  • Hip pain and arthritis pain
  • Neck pain including headaches, past injuries, and ligament damage
  • Back pain due to disk disease and herniation
  • Sciatica
  • TMJ syndrome/jaw pain
  • Knee pain such as meniscus tears, osteoarthritis, and torn ligaments

Platelets stimulate growth factors which allow your body to heal, add collagen to the area, and strengthen ligaments.

PRP can be used in combination with Prolozone for amazing results.

There are several resources on the internet and YouTube videos explaining the therapy. For example: a Fox Sports news article describes how PRP therapy is beneficial for athletes.

Hair Loss

PRP can be used to successfully for hair loss. Please see before and after pictures on our facebook page!

Treatments are recommended to be 1 time per month for 6 months.

Red light laser therapy also demonstrates positive research for significantly improving hair growth/counts. Treatments are approximately 25 minutes, painless and relaxing in the office.

Phosphatidylcholine certified Patricia Kane Protocol

The Patricia Kane Protocol offers therapeutic Phosphatidylcholine, Folinic Acid and Glutathione to support your body's detoxification pathways and nervous system.

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) comprises 50% of the membrane for every cell in your body. The liver alone contains enough cell membranes to cover an entire football field.

Without PC, cells cannot survive, & neither can you. It is essential for energy production, eyesight, nerve and brain function. To make PC, the body needs a specific ratio of omega 3 & omega 6 fatty acids not found in the average American diet.

Folinic acid helps you convert your own phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) to phosphatdylcholine (PC), as well as aiding general detoxification and supporting metabolic function. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant produced by your body which is necessary for basic liver function and can become depleted with illness and inflammation.

The Patricia Kane Protocol is used to support detoxification and to treat a wide array of cognitive, neurological and metabolic disorders:

  • Alzheimers & Dementia
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Chronic anxiety and depression
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Mold toxicity
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
  • Autism and ADHD
  • Fibromyaliga & Chronic Fatigue
  • Optimize metabolism

For more information, please see We only utilize PC that is imported from Switzerland for patient safety. The majority of research has been in Europe and can be difficult to find online. Ask your doctors at LOHC for more information.

IV Therapies including Heavy Metal Chelation & Testing

We offer a variety of Intravenous (IV) Therapy at Lake Oswego Health Center.  Our doctors have been trained in IV support for the immune system, comprehensive IV therapy for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, heavy metal testing and chelation, PK protocol, Vitamin C IV's, Multi-nutrient IV's and various other systemic treatments.  In order to receive IV therapy, you must be an established patient.  During your new patient visit, the doctors can assess which procedure will best fit your health needs.  We look forward to helping you regain your health.

The problem with heavy metal testing is that 100% of us have elevated levels.  We have to determine if any of your symptoms are connected to these specific metals.  This is not a alternative concept.  Please see the link below from the CDC regarding our exposures.  There simply isn't a standardized, FDA approved treatment plan for deciding what is elevated and how to treat.

Did you know that an elevated lead level is linked to an ALL CAUSE MORTALITY increase.  We need to pay attention to our environment and our exposures.  It is beyond chewing lead based paint.  There are so many other sources.  Low level lead has been researched to show symptoms including:  Imbalance, pregnancy induced high blood pressure, high blood pressure, decreased walking speed, decrease in children's IQ, depressio and panic, ADHD, gout, headaches, generalized fatigue, joint and muscle pains, abdominal pain, mood swings, decreased cognition, short term memory loss, and parkinsonian presentation.

Did you know that a diet high in fish, especially certain fish, increases your mercury levels.  There are other environmental sources as well.  Common symptoms in research studies include:  fatigue, hair loss, trouble thinking, memory loss, muscle aches, headaches and inreased irritability.  Please note that the largest exposure to mercury is likely from your diet and not your amalgam fillings.  Most of the mercury is your blood is methylmercury.  Pacific tuna accounts for about 40% of total human exposure to methymercury.  We need to educate pregnant women and limit what sources of seafood our young children are consuming.    It is estimated that there will be a 50% increase in the Pacific Ocean's mercury levels by the year 2050.

Cadmium has been linked in research to breast cancer, osteoporosis, kidney disorders, dental health problems, childhood developmental delays, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.  A simple screening urine test can show elevated levels.  Smoking is one common source of increased exposure.

Arsenic has been in the news alot lately.  Yes we can find it in our chicken, rice, shrimp and apple juice.  If you buy organic, levels should be less.  However, the largest source is from our water.  If you have your screening urine test and arsenic is elevated, test your water.  You may want to buy a filter for your drinking water.  Symptoms in research that have been connected to elevated levels include:  cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, squamous cell carcinoma, shingles and elevated homocysteine.
