Weight Management

Our Approach to Weight Management

At Lake Oswego Health Center, we recognize that no single weight-management program works for everyone, which is why we offer several options. We start by taking an individual approach to each patient, working to learn everything from their personal goals and current lifestyle to physical data that will help us shape the right programming. From there, we work to guide you through every step, ensuring that our recommendations help you reach your objectives and that you have the tools to maintain your ideal weight long term.

Our Weight-Management Treatments

Depending on your body type and objectives, we’ll use one or more of the solutions below to create a tailored program based on your needs.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) Hormone Therapy

hCG has been used for decades to help with weight loss. We find our patients are very successful when they follow our guided treatment plans. Often we see a half-pound to a pound of weight loss per day. Programs can span from 23 to 40 days of injections with a total of six to eight weeks of strict nutrition changes.

Lipotropic Injection

Lipotropic injections are another option that can help with weight loss: “Lipo" refers to fat and “tropic" means to act upon. The injections:

  • They can lower the amount of fat that a person’s body stores
  • Increase metabolism, which burns fat more quickly
  • Increase energy levels and therefore stamina for working out and other physical activity

We usually see about an extra pound of weight loss weekly when adding injections to your routine. Our recommendation is one to two times per week for six to eight weeks.

Peptide Therapies

Peptides can help reduce cravings and suppress appetite while improving lean muscle mass. Peptides can come as capsules, lozenges, or injections. Peptide therapies include, semaglutide, sermorelin, DNF-10, tesofensine, and many more. We can also use peptides to improve digestion and alleviate joint pain. A common one is BPC-157.

Semaglutide and Other GLP Agonists

Semaglutide, originally developed as a diabetes medication, has been proven effective in treating chronic weight management issues for those who are overweight or obese. We utilize semaglutide and other versions of the medication in a once-weekly injection therapy involving a very small needle. Results show that patients tend to experience significantly fewer cravings and consume reduced portion sizes. This allows our team to increase the nutrient density of food choices and promote lean muscle mass at the same time. Many patients find this therapy offers a less stressful way to lose weight.

Nutrition Counseling

Are you ready for change but not sure what to do?  Are you overwhelmed by all the diets that are in the news? We can customize a plan based on your individual needs and genetics. Beyond developing the right diet for you, we’ll show you how our approach to nutrition will help you lose weight and the impact it will have on your body over time. In addition, we’ll provide a program designed to work for the long term, not just quick weight loss. We work to positively change behaviors for a lifetime.

Lab Testing

We offer comprehensive testing that can benefit metabolism and offer nutrition insight. These lab tests can include:

  • Full thyroid panels
  • Microbiome testing
  • Food sensitivity testing
  • Inflammation evaluation
  • Leaky gut testing
  • GI infection testing including candida
  • Other labs that, when optimized, can help improve energy

Improving Digestion

It may sound simple, but improving digestive function can often lead to less bloating, better nutrient absorption, and ultimately weight loss. We’ll create a diet that can help boost your digestive function—you’ll even feel better, too. We test for small bowel bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), dysbiosis, and other causes of poor absorption.

Your microbiome—the microorganisms in the body or a part of the body—is a crucial aspect of weight management. The type of bacteria our bodies produce can affect how we develop our neurotransmitters (our bodies’ chemical messengers), parts of our immune system, and our metabolism. Studies have shown that testing and optimizing our microbiome has proven effective in weight management. One study with rats revealed that their microbiome affected their body fat significantly. When their microbiome (intestinal flora) was altered, even though they were exposed to the same amount of food supply, their body fat percentage changed.

Part of weight management may also be connected to years of antibiotic use, or medications that we take, that can affect our microbiome over time.

We offer treatments that work to improve your microbiome, leading to better absorption, which can significantly reduce cravings.

Patient Success Story

Using HCG, we were able to help this patient lose a significant amount of body fat. During these programs, we also offer education regarding proper diet and nutrition, and how to maintain results.
