Welcome to our May edition. At Lake Oswego Health Center (LOHC), pain relief remains the second most frequent reason new patients walk through our doors. Whether you are a high performance athlete or someone seeking to reclaim daily mobility, our mission is to move beyond temporary “band-aid” solutions and provide regenerative therapies that address the cellular roots of discomfort.
This month, we explore the sophisticated mechanisms of modern regenerative medicine— highlighting why LOHC is a leader in pain management and recovery.
The Science of Healing: Regenerative Modalities Explained
To the average person, “pain relief” often means medication or rest. However, at LOHC, we utilize the body’s innate biological signaling to accelerate repair. Here is the novel science behind our most effective treatments:
1.Photobiomodulation (PBM), UV Therapy & Hemealumen
- The PBM Mechanism: PBM uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to target Cytochrome c Oxidase within your mitochondria. This stimulation boosts ATP (cellular energy) production and reduces oxidative stress.
- The UV Component: While NIR light penetrates deep into tissue, Ultraviolet (UV) light therapy—often used in systemic blood irradiation via our Hemealumen system—acts as a potent immune modulator and antimicrobial. It improves blood rheology (flow) and oxygen delivery by charging the red blood cells.
- Hemealumen Integration: This advanced system utilizes six distinct spectrums of light (UV-A, UV-C, Blue, Green, Red, and NIR) to treat the blood systemically, offering a polychromatic “recharge” for the entire body.
- Best For: Systemic inflammation, mitochondrial “sluggishness,” autoimmune flares, and non-invasive fitness recovery.
2.Prolozone Therapy & Neural Therapy
- The Mechanism: Prolozone is a combination of medical-grade Ozone (O3) and a specialized “reconstructive” liquid base of vitamins and minerals. Ozone increases the Oxygen Utilization Coefficient, essentially forcing damaged cells to use oxygen more efficiently to repair themselves. It also stimulates the production of collagen and cartilage.
- Neural Therapy Integration: We often enhance this treatment with Neural Therapy, which uses Procaine to treat “interference fields” such as surgical or injury scars. Scars can hold an abnormal electrical charge that keeps the nervous system in a “fight or flight” state. Procaine resets this electrical potential, allowing the tissue to finally heal.
- Best For: Joint instability, chronic back pain, limited range of motion, and “mystery” pain linked to old scar tissue. It is often the first choice for those looking for immediate, cost-effective regenerative relief.
- The Mechanism: We concentrate your own blood’s platelets to deliver a massive “blast” of growth factors (such as PDGF and TGF-beta) directly to an injury.
- Best For: Mechanical repairs. If you have a tear or significant structural degradation in a tendon or joint, PRP provides the scaffolding and building blocks for physical reconstruction.
- The Mechanism: Exosomes are not cells, but extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells. They carry “instructions” (mRNA, miRNA, and proteins) that guide your existing cells to behave like younger, healthier cells.
- Best For: Advanced recovery and mobility. Exosomes are a high-tech option for patients who haven’t responded to other therapies, offering some of the most potent signaling for cellular regeneration available today. Also used in longevity medicine.
Which is Right for You?
- Fitness Recovery: PBM and Exosomes offer the fastest turnaround for muscle repair and systemic energy.
- Chronic Pain & Mobility: Prolozone and PRP are superior for stabilizing joints and rebuilding tissue integrity.
